Featured Project

This award winning project was the inspiration of our client's goals of being able to use the outdoor space day and night to entertain, relax, talk with friends, host business events, and use the space on a year-round basis. The lower Manhattan courtyard can be viewed and accessed from both the main floor of the apartment and the lower floor…both offering different visual vantage points. Due to the nature of the space with views from inside the apartment the courtyard is essentially a piece of artwork that is appreciated not only when outside but also from within.
Within the four levels of IPE, seperated with a 6" rise, are all of the elements that our client had on her wish list. Including a dining area for six with custom wood furniture, seating/lounge area for 6-8 using architectural sectional furniture with a custom gas fire pit, natural stone outdoor kitchen with grill/fridge/icemaker/winechiller/sink/storage, sauna for 3 people, Hot&Cold outdoor shower, built-in planting areas, free-standing planters, greenwall, & cedar pergola/trellises. The entire space is equipped with a drip-irrigation system, and fully lit with a low-voltage lighting system.
Throughout the levels, plant materials of different colors and textures surround you; we chose an array of specimen trees, evergreens, perennials, vines, and even two artificial “aloe plants” that were made from beads and placed near the kitchen area to complement the flames of the gas firepit. We designed the linear greenwall using IPE panels of different sizes in a horizontal direction contrasted by vertical in-lays of various plant materials.
