Something about landscaping, in our minds, takes the American, whitepicket-fence dream to its ultimate fulfillment, even in a densely populated, urban setting.

While flying over metropolitan areas the view may soon be different. With the trend of rooftop gardens on the rise, concrete roofs may soon be the thing of the past. In fact in Tokyo new buildings are required to place greenery on at least 20% of available roof space. With New York, Boston, and Chicago leading the way in the US, it is expected that the green roofs will absorb heat normally retained in asphalt streets, reducing city temperature by five degrees.
